Skylight Art Prints are created using the 8 color Epson Archival Ultra Chrome K3TM ink system that produces prints that last for many lifetimes. It outperforms Lightjet and Pegasus prints in lightfastness and media options, and Iris Prints in lightfastness and color gamut. The secret is in the control of tiny ink particles with specially formulated resin polymer for the widest color gamut of any pigment, UV, or long lasting dye ink in the market. Epson's new three level black technology dramatically raises the bar for professional color and black and white prints.
Artist Editions are created by printing a series of the same plate with the same color of inks, making each image exactly like the others in the edition.
Collagraph Prints are created from a plate made by an artist with objects added on top of the surface like a collage, from which the word collagraph was derived. Collagraphs are normally created from raised brush marks using various mediums to reveal the distinct lines and shapes.
Digital Images are images created or manipulated with a computer.
Encaustic Paintings are created using a material with wax as the pigment binder.
Giclee Prints are made using a specialized ink spray process developed exclusively for fine art printing. The artist's image is first captured digitally and then refined by the artist and master printer through a series of proofs to ensure the color and clarity of the work. Afterwards, tiny droplets of ink are sprayed onto high-quality printmaking paper, which transfers the image and creates each print in the limited edition series. The combination of the special ink and paper used creates a print of enduring quality. Giclee prints are known for their brilliant color range, and the details and subtleties they capture.
Iris Giclee Prints are a high quality giclee print with outstanding color matching. They take the extreme time and attention to detail that is needed in the creation of fine artwork.
Hand Colored Originals are created when a black and white silver gelatin print is made on fiber based paper. They are brown toned and then hand painted with archival transparent photo oils. They are mounted in hand cut beveled 8-ply archival mats and hand signed by the artist.
Handpulled Prints include all prints created by the traditional old fashioned press. Each print is created one at a time and printed from an inked plate that must be re-inked by hand for each print. This is a physically demanding technique.
Intaglio is the overall printing category for etchings and engravings, whereby an image is carved or acid-etched onto a plate, which is then hand-inked and transferred to a paper using a press. A visual characteristic of intaglios is the plate mark that remains impressed into the paper after the printing.
Limited Edition Prints is a term used to describe prints produced from an approved artists proof in a limited number. The edition size is fixed prior to printing, and edition sizes are normally small; our Association averages only 50 prints per edition. Once an edition is sold out, no more will ever be made by Skylight Art or the artist.
Mixed Media is a combination of two or more art media.
Monoprints/Monotypes are one-of-a-kind prints made from a painting done on plexiglass and drawn through a press.
One-of-a-Kind Works are created when the artist individualizes a work with hand coloring, drawing, or painting on the surface.
Sepia or Brown-Toned Prints are created from a photograph that has been treated with a chemical solution to permanently plate the silver particles of the image with a sepia or brown-colored tone. The underlying characteristics of the photographic print, the concentration of the chemical toner and the length of exposure to the toner, among other things, greatly influence the effect that is created. Fine art sepia and brown-toned prints are often made on a special fiber-based paper to ensure quality and longevity.
Silver Gelatin Prints, more commonly known as "black and white photographs", are made on paper coated with light sensitive silver nitrate emulsions. Special fiber-based paper is often used to ensure quality and longevity.
